Hawaiian Airlines Announces Honolulu-Brisbane Tickets Now On Sale


On July 3, Hawaiian Airlines  began selling tickets for its new nonstop route between Honolulu and Brisbane, Australia, with an introductory round-trip fare of $1,106 (includes taxes and fees) offered for travel originating in Honolulu. The new thrice-weekly service begins November 27, 2012.

The special introductory fare for the Honolulu-Brisbane flight is available for purchase through Monday, July 18, and is good for a six-month travel period from November 27 through May 30, 2013, with a maximum stay of two months.

Tickets can now be purchased online at, by calling Hawaiian’s reservations department toll-free at 1-800-367-5320, or through any professional travel agent.

Subject to Australian government approval, Hawaiian will be the only U.S. carrier flying to Brisbane. The capital city of the State of Queensland, Brisbane is centrally located on Australia’s east coast and is the gateway to the world-famous Great Barrier Reef, world heritage listed rainforests, the iconic Outback territory, and the renowned leisure destinations of Australia’s Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

Along with providing nonstop service to a destination known for its popular sites and attractions, Hawaiian has designed its flight schedule for travelers to make same-day connections to other cities throughout Queensland and to other states across Australia through its interline partnership with Virgin Australia.

Beginning November 27, Hawaiian’s Flight HA 443 will depart Honolulu at 10:20 a.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, cross the international dateline and land in Brisbane at 4:00 p.m. the following day.

Beginning November 28, the return flight HA 444 will depart Brisbane at 6:35 p.m. every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, cross the international dateline and arrive in Honolulu at 8:05 a.m. the same day.

Hawaiian will operate its Honolulu-Brisbane service offering the comfort of its wide-body, twin-aisle Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, seating 264 passengers in a two-class cabin, with 18 in Business Class and 246 in Economy Class.

HTA Releases Airline Seat Capacity for Third Quarter 2012

From the Director of Tourism Research. The Hawai’i Tourism Authority (HTA), the state’s tourism agency, forecasts the continued growth of total scheduled nonstop air seats to Hawai’i in the third quarter of 2012. The projection is based on flights appearing in OAG and Diio Mi airlines schedules as of June 2012.

Total scheduled seat capacity to the state is expected to climb 12.6 percent during the third quarter, between July through September 2012, in comparison to the same period last year.  This increase is attributed by growth from domestic and most of Hawai’i’s major international source markets, including new flights from New York and Washington, D.C. as of June 2012.  With the anticipated increase in total air seats, third quarter seat capacity to the state is on track to reach record levels and exceed prior peak 2007 levels by 2.6 percent.

Scheduled seats from Japan are expected to increase 15.4 percent in the third quarter of 2012, mainly due to growth in seats from Osaka (16.3%) and Tokyo-Narita (6.2%), and recently launched service from Fukuoka  by both Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines.

The non-stop air seats from Canada to Hawai’i are expected to be even with prior year levels in the third quarter of 2012.

Other Asia
Other Asia is expected to continue to be Hawai’i’s fastest growing region for scheduled air seats during the July through September 2012 period, with anticipated gains from both South Korea (+55%) and Shanghai (48.3%).

Oceania, boosted by gains from both Australia (32.9%) and New Zealand (12.4%), is the state’s second fastest growing region with air seats expected to grow 29.4 percent in the third quarter of 2012.

U.S. West
Scheduled third quarter seats from the U.S. West region are expected to rise 8.8 percent, with significant increases in capacity from Oakland (54.8%), San Diego (60.5%), San Jose (81.1%), Las Vegas (18.3%) and Los Angeles (11%) driving this growth.

U.S. East
Air seats from the U.S. East region are expected to increase by 25 percent in the third quarter, boosted by the launch of Hawaiian Airlines’ non-stop flights from New York (139%) and United Airlines’ non-stop flights from Washington, D.C. In addition, United is also expected to increase service from Houston (9.9%) during this period.

Sale of Lana‘i Finalized

According to local news station, Hawaii News Now, the sale of the island of Lana’i by David Murdock’s Castle and Cooke, Inc. to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has officially been completed.

The deal, which had been the works for at least two months, according to documents released by the state Public Utilities Commission Monday, is reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

“It is very gratifying to me personally to see Lana’i now in the hands of Larry Ellison, a very committed individual who will bring his ideas and energy to sustain the beauty and heritage of Lâna’i,” said Murdock. I extend my sincerest thanks to the many employees, their families, business associates, State and County leaders and administrators who have supported my efforts and changes on Lâna’i.

According to documents filed with the Public Utilities Commission, Ellison’s purchase includes the island’s two resort hotels (the Four Seasons Resorts Lanai at Manele Bay and the Four Seasons Resorts Lanai, Lodge at Koele) two championship golf courses and club houses (The Experience at Koele and The Challenge at Manele) and more than 88,000 acres of land.

Ellison, who is the third wealthiest American citizen with an estimated worth of $36.5 billion dollars, becomes the owner of 98 percent of the island’s 141 square miles.

Jurassic Park Roars Back to Life

MC&A recently created a Jurassic Park themed event at Kualoa Ranch, the actual filming location of the movie. Guests were treated to a tram ride through Kualoa Ranch as special VIPs of INGEN, the corporation behind the dinosaur cloning technology. They traveled through the iconic Jurassic Park gates and passed through open fields filled with giant dino eggs, nests and bones.

The tram took them up to an old science bunker filled with scientists and equipment to enjoy pupus and drinks. Afterwards, they drove down to the main campsite to enjoy a fabulous outdoor lunch. The sounds of the roaming dinosaurs could be echoing through the valley, adding to the excitement.

It was truly a fun and immersive experience that they won’t soon forget.

Monkeypod – Maui’s Newest Merriman Restaurant Opens

Popular chef, Peter Merriman, recently opened “Monkeypod” his latest restaurant on the island of Maui. Stressing casual sustainable dining, Monkeypod stresses its own unique philosophy.

Alan Wong’s Amasia Opens at Grand Wailea

Popular Hawaii restauranteur, Alan Wong, has opened up his newest culinary venture at Maui’s Grand Wailea Resort. Alan Wong’s Amasia, elevates the standards of cuisine, style and service. The restaurant is a collaboration between Chef Alan Wong, a founder of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine and Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort.

Alan Wong’s Amasia is tucked inside Grand Wailea’s Japanese garden surrounded by 800 tons of rock from Mt. Fuji and a pond filled with koi and turtles. Reminiscent of a teahouse in Kyoto, the original structure was built in Japan and brought to Maui in 1990. Following a $3 million renovation, the beautifully restored restaurant features private tatami rooms, a formal dining area, a cocktail lounge, a sushi bar and a robata for grilled delicacies. The bar offers private label wines and sakes and creative cocktails inspired by its global menu.

Amasia by definition is the converging of continents. The cuisine in Alan Wong’s Amasia showcases Maui’s best bounty from land and sea, melding them with the different flavors and cooking techniques of cultures from the East and West.

“This menu is inspired by street food and cuisines from all over the globe,” said Chef Alan Wong. “Our food will be experienced in small plates and family-style sharing portions, and our restaurant features a robata grill and a sushi bar in the dining room.”

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Gala 2012

We were proud to have been a sponsor of this year’s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Annual Gala. Titled “An Evening of Hope…It Takes A Family”, this special gala celebrated the strength and commitment of Hawaii’s Ohana living with the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.  All proceeds from ticket and silent auction sales were given to JDRF, the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating and preventing T2D.
